SanC-Min - Highly Desirable Mineral Blends for the Global Desalinated Water Industry

SanC-Min™ - Soluble Magnesium

Our proprietary “Minerals in Solution Technology (“MiST”) produces a highly water soluble “made to order” powder that adds back the exact amounts of several minerals desired or required in desalinated water sold for human consumption.

The Problem/Need:

Desalinated ocean water is the primary source, and in some parts of the world the only source, of “potable” water.

However, the desalination process (unlike in municipal water
from aquifer, well water or spring water) removes all solids (minerals
and electrolytes), usually results in an “acid” pH and therefore, makes the water unfit for human consumption. It, however, is an excellent means to deliver essential minerals to the body since measured quantities of beneficial minerals (such as Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Zinc, Selenium) can be, and are customarily, added back. In fact, most companies who sell desalinated water add selected minerals before bottling.

Typically, a combination of one or more calcium salts (chloride, carbonate, citrate, lactate, gluconate, or citrate-malate) and magnesium salts (chloride, sulfate, oxide, or carbonate), and sometimes other minerals, are used to meet the requirement of total dissolved solids (TDS) of at least 100 parts per million (ppm). Additionally, the pH of the final water needs to be adjusted to near neutral. Among other issues faced in this industry are (i) having to mix different salt forms of different minerals, (ii) the need to follow an orderly sequence of adding the different salt forms of the different minerals so that none of these fall out of solution or react with each other chemically, and (iii) the need to use a sodium based chemical to achieve the final pH adjustment to neutral (since the water soluble salts of Calcium and Magnesium are usually acidic) and the prevailing desire to avoid sodium in drinking water.

The Solution:

We address all three key issues listed above because:

  • our MiST allows us to manufacture one single blend powder in which the different minerals are uniformly blended in the “desired” amounts specified by the customer
  • multiple minerals are added in one single mixing step of adding the custom SanC-Min blend into water
  • multiple minerals on the same “molecular platform” in our SanC-Min blend eliminates the possibility of chemical reactions between the minerals and
  • since SanC-Min compounds have been designed to be near neutral in pH, we eliminate the need for the use of sodium-based chemicals for pH adjustment.

Ours is a sodium-free blend made to be neutral pH; moreover, SanC-Cal, the primary mineral, is made from a natural source of Calcium – mineral deposits created by mother nature over several centuries. We only use materials that are classified Generally Regarded AS Safe (GRAS). Our process, unlike others’, removes starting and processing materials so that the mineral in the SanC product is only the water-soluble form (free of the starting material) – a feature that is critical in the newly enacted cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Guidelines of the U.S. FDA) for dietary supplements.
